JCHC at Elk Fest

The popular George Miller Atlatl Throw is back again, hosted by the Society of PA Archaeology Northfork Chapter 29 with support from JCHC.  The atlatl is an ancient hunting weapon that preceded the bow and arrow. It is a spear-throwing device, which is essentially a stick with a handle on one end and a hook that engages a light spear or “dart” on the other. The flipping motion of the atlatl propels the dart much faster and farther than if launched by hand alone.  Everyone can try their hand with the help of our instructors.

We will also have an Archaeological Exhibit of Native American artifacts on display and raffle tickets for sale for a coveted Native American Robert Griffing Print, “Fort Pitt,” signed and numbered #631/950. Tickets are only $5.00 each or 5 for $20.00. This drawing will be held September 2nd, 2023 at our 17th Annual Antique Rifles & Indian Artifact Show at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.

We will also have Ebike Raffle Tickets for sale at the Elk Festival Event for an Aventon Pace 350, a Class 2, 36V/350W Cruise to support our September Family Bicycle Event from Brookville to Summerville.  $5.00 each or 5 for $20. Such a deal!!!  This drawing will be held September 17th at our 5th Annual Family Bicycle Rails to Trails Poker Ride & Picnic at the end of the ride in Summerville.
