Jefferson County History Center presents our 2026 Fall Education Series: “Window to the Past: Hidden Histories & Stories of Jefferson County and NW PA.”
“Trade on the Pennsylvania Frontier: The Beaver Wars and More” will be the topic of the presentation by Kenneth Burkett on Wednesday, October 7th.
A brief summary of the presentation follows:
By 1520, European goods — metal tools and kettles, cloth, beads and furs — were reaching Native communities
across Pennsylvania as the fur and hide trade grew.
This program will examine how dependence on these items shaped trade alliances, diplomacy and frontier warfare.
Examples of many early trade goods will be displayed and discussed.
